Locum Opportunities

Requirements: The Snaw-Naw-As First Nations (Nanoose) has an immediate need for a Locum Family Physician(s) to provide 1-6 sessions per week of Primary Care Services at the Snaw-Naw-As Health Centre for a period of 3 weeks (or longer dependent on number of sessions per week filled and FP availability). There is also an ongoing opportunity for a Family Physician to cover 1-2 sessions per month as part of the group of FPs that provide care on a regular rotation. The Snaw-Naw-As Health Centre is home to an interdisciplinary team of providers including Physicians, Nurse Practitioner (currently vacant), Home and Community Health Nurses, Maternal Health Worker, and Wellness Counselor, as well as, several visiting service providers. The Physicians provide low barrier primary care to an Indigenous patient population often with complex medical needs. This can include patients of various ages with multiple co-morbidities, past experiences with trauma and/or significant social and cultural barriers to care. Previous experience in working in First Nations Communities and/or with Indigenous peoples and the ability to provide patient and family centred care, with respect to the importance of traditional healing practices is ideal. Previous training in cultural safety and trauma informed practice and knowledge in care of patients with substance use and trauma is preferred.
